Robert Asghar writes in the Wall Street Journal about Islam's Silent Majority

Most Muslims are in fact both moderate and cowardly, but perhaps understandably so; they are buffeted by bullying forces unlike anything we know. American agnostics who dislike saying the Pledge of Allegiance, like spoiled princesses who feel a pea under a stack of mattresses, have no idea how good they have it.

The bullying limits opposition to nothing more than snide mutterings among progressives cowering at dinner parties in Pakistan, Palestine or Saudi Arabia. Far be it from them to challenge extremism publicly, however--it's not worth the fight or the trouble, in their minds.

But now their very civilization is at stake--and so is that of the West. It's time to put one's money where one's prayers are. The rest of the world is looking on with puzzlement and fear, wondering where the heart of Islam lies. In all likelihood, the outcry against Islam will grow deafening in coming months and years. This will polarize moderate Muslims: Either they will feel under attack and align themselves fully with their fundamentalist cousins, or they will become radical moderates, fighting for the honor of Islam against these backward cousins. The former scenario would be a disaster for the planet.

I'll have to take Mr. Asghar's word for it that in Muslim countries fundamentalist bullying is extreme. But what about here in the U.S.? Or Europe? The silence of these Muslims in deafening. Bush said that the September 11 terrorists were attempting to hijack a great religion. I hope he's right. But until I hear the outcry of peaceful Muslims, I have to believe that the terrorists are the true face of Islam.

Charles over at Little Green Footballs writes:

The many princes of the peaceful, tolerant Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are puzzled. They are hurt. Who could possibly be telling the Pentagon the Saudis are our enemies? And why?

Could it be the hate speech that issues regularly from their mosques and their media? Could it be their support for the most repressive, barbaric version of Islam in the world? Could it be their refusal to cooperate with 9/11 investigations, or their refusal to freeze bank accounts of terror groups? Could it be the millions of dollars they give to support the Paleostinian stupidfada? Maybe it’s the way they’re buddying up to Saddam Hussein?

Of course not, silly infidel. It’s the Jews.

The mass circulation Okaz said the description of Saudi Arabia as an enemy to the United States "did not come as a surprise to us because all it's (the Pentagon's) members are either Jews or allies of the Zionist lobby."

What hypocrisy! If the Saudis really believed that Jews run the Pentagon, they would be falling all over themselves condemning Palestinian suicide attacks. Of course those in power know better, but they put this hate out to their people to deflect attention from their own incompetence.
